Majlis Speaker Mehdi Karroubi announced his withdrawal from the run-off elections for the 7th Majlis.
Karroubi, however, told reporters here Wednesday the Assembly of Combatant Clerics (ACC), of which he is a member, will compete vigorously in the run-off elections throughout the country.

The speaker said he decided to withdraw from the elections of his own accord without telling Majlis representatives or his ACC colleagues because he felt that under the present circumstances, his decision to do so would not harm the process.
Karroubi stressed that his decision to pull out of the elections would not have adverse effects.
