Fear of Imminent execution/3 Janoury 2004
IRAN Kobra Rahmanpoor(F), aged 23
Association of Iranian Political Prisoners(in Exile) is concerned that Kobra Rahmanpoor(F), aged 23, faces imminent execution. Kobra Rahmanpoor was to be hanged on 30 december 2003, after her death sentenced was upheld by the Supreme Court in Janouary 2003. On the basis of unknown reason, the execution did not carried out and she was given 15 days to live. The time is running out. We demand whole the world, Human Rights organisations such as Amnesty International, UH Human Rights Commission, European Human Rights Commission, in prticular to put the Islamic regime of Iran under pressure in order to stop the execution of Kobra Rahmanpoor.
Background
Kobra Rahmanpoor was sentenced to death for the premeditated murder of her mother-in-law in 2000, and her husband, the victim's son, has demanded that the death sentence be carried out.
Kobra Rahmanpour was arrested on 5 November 2000 after killing her mother-in-law. She allegedly acted in self-defence after her mother-in-law tried to attack her with a kitchen knife. Her lawyer has reportedly complained that the court did not consider, nor conduct any investigation into her claim that the murder was in self-defence. Her lawyer is believed to have alleged that wounds on Kobra Rahmanpour's right hand had been sustained due to pulling the knife from the hands of her mother-in-law.
Kobra is held in Evin prisonn in Tehran.
Kobra was forced into marriage against her will by her parents, and had been the victim of domestic violence since her marriage
Kobra should not be executed. She has been the victim of a soceity that has turned her into poverty, given her the knife and sentenced her to death.She is not to be blamed for what she has been forced to do. She has the right to live.
AIPP (in Exile)opposes the death penalty as the ultimate cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment.
AIPP(in Exile)believes that death penalty is a ultimate crime that governments such as Islamic regime of Iran, carry out deliberately in order to terrroize the people.
